Barnes & Mullins Troubadour 5-String Banjo
The Barnes & Mullins 'Troubadour' is a superb 5-string banjo named after the monthly music publication 'The Troubadour' issued and created by Mr Bowley Barnes and Albert Mullins beginning in their music-hall heyday of 1895.
Along with Barnes & Mullins' banjo-specific title 'The Jo', the Troubadour represented the cutting edge of contemporary music news, comment and transcription.
Featuring a beautifully figured burl maple resonator paired with a maple rim, hard maple neck and appointed with stylish antique gold engraved fittings, the Troubadour is a wonderfully enchanting banjo that impeccably embodies the legacy and heritage of Barnes & Mullins instruments.
You can expect a fast, articulate response and magnificently bright, natural and balanced tone. The hard maple neck stops the string energy from being overly absorbed, allowing the strings to vibrate with freedom at the bridge, thus enhancing the Troubadour’s excellent voice and adding even more volume and character.
The Troubadour is complete with a Remo Weatherking head, ovangkol fingerboard with patterned fret inlays, and traditional planetary machineheads.

Mr Albert Mullins, who was on the return leg of a 2 year worldwide sales voyage, was one of the lost souls that day.

This 4-String Irish/Gaelic banjo features 17 frets and is commonly tuned in ‘Irish tuning’ G,D,A,E (4th to 1st). Its shorter scale length makes playing typically fast Irish fiddle styles and songs easier, therefore making its use more common among these types of music and musicians.
It makes for an excellent introductory instrument if you’re new to the world of banjos given its use of fewer strings than 5-string banjos, its shorter scale length, and its versatile playing styles.

Barnes & Mullins Albert 5-String Banjo Open Back
The Barnes & Mullins 'Albert' open back 5-String banjo is an authentic 'old-time' banjo. Unlike more commonly used 'bluegrass' banjos, open back models produce a noticeably quieter sound than their resonator-equipped, louder siblings.
Featuring a chocolate-coloured walnut rim and mahogany neck, the Albert’s natural ‘open-back’ character is complimented perfectly with a charming mature tone and subtle brightness that brings the Albert to life.
The Albert is complete with chrome fittings and armrest, ovangkol fingerboard with patterned fret inlays, and traditional planetary machineheads.
Who is this banjo for?
This B&M ‘Albert’ 5-string open back banjo is – like all open back banjos – a great choice for ‘Clawhammer’ players. Clawhammer playing employs a percussive technique where the index or middle fingers are used to strike the strings rather than finger picks – with the hand in a ‘claw’ shape.
This technique naturally produces a softer sound that is complimented perfectly by an open back instrument as it is quieter and more subdued tonally as some of the sound escapes through the back towards the player.

Barnes & Mullins Concert Ukulele - Koa
Barnes & Mullins BMUK7 ukuleles use all-Koa tonewoods that radiate an exotic vibe with their contrasting dark and light wood grain patterns creating a stunning, shimmering visual elegance.
One of the most traditionally used ukulele woods, Koa is synonymous with authentic Hawaiian ukulele sounds, delivering a direct, mid-range tone with plenty of sustain and good level of high-end chime.
Complete with a beautiful mother of pearl binding and rosette, Barnes & Mullins BMUK7 ukuleles deliver both visually and aurally and are a great choice for players seeking an authentic instrument that is a real head turner.
BMUK7 ukuleles feature strap buttons for attaching a ukulele strap.
Who is this ukulele for?
Concert ukuleles are the second largest of the three common sizes of ukulele (soprano, concert, tenor). Their size offers a good compromise between smaller soprano and larger tenor ukuleles.
They feature a larger fret spacing and slightly wider neck than their soprano brethren – meaning they’re easy to play as they there’s more space on the fingerboard to master the chord shapes. The concert size is a great choice for players of any experience or skill level.
Their larger body means they naturally produce a full sound and warm tone with more mid-range emphasis than the soprano. They’re therefore excellent accompaniment ukuleles that blend well alongside other instruments.

Barnes & Mullins Bass Ukulele - Mahogany
Barnes & Mullins BMUK1 ukuleles feature Mahogany tops matched with Mahogany back and sides. A medium / dense wood, Mahogany delivers a soft and warm, focused tone with plenty of emphasis on the mid-range.
Combined with their natural mid-brown colour and refined grain pattern, BMUK1 Mahogany ukuleles offer an excellent choice both aurally and visually for players throughout every stage of their uke playing journey.
BMUK1 ukuleles are complete with an all-over satin finish and accentuated with a lightly coloured wood binding. They feature strap buttons for attaching a ukulele strap.
This electro model features an onboard preamp with tuner, volume, bass and treble controls, making it a fantastic choice if you're someone who plays ukulele in an amplified ensemble or band setup.
Who is this ukulele for?
The bass ukulele is a relatively new type of ukulele on the scene. Although the bass ukulele scale length is only marginally longer than that of a baritone uke, the bass ukulele uses specially designed strings which are thicker in order for lower bass frequency notes to be achieved.
The bass ukulele is tuned the same way as a bass guitar – E, A, D, G – and is therefore a great instrument for bassists to pick up and immediately transfer their skills to. It is played in the same style as bass guitar, with strings that are plucked rather than strummed. Its low and warm tone offers an excellent option for ukulele ensembles to support the low-end of their overall sound.

Barnes & Mullins Wimborne A-Style Mandolin - Electro
The Barnes & Mullins Wimborne mandolin is an A-Style mandolin named after Wimborne in the English county of Dorset. It was during the late 19th century that Albert Mullins and S Bowley Barnes first met in the town of Wimborne and formed the friendship upon which the next few decades of performance and business would be founded.
The Wimborne features a dark stained solid spruce top paired with a corresponding dark stained solid maple back and sides to deliver a bright and balanced tone with a beautifully characterful chime.
Complete with an ovangkol neck and fingerboard, nickel hardware and adjustable ebony bridge, the Wimborne is the perfect model both for beginners who are discovering the delights of the mandolin for the first time as well as established players wanting to add a great sounding A-style mandolin to their collection.
This electro model features an Artec passive pickup system, making it an ideal choice for performing and recording musicians.
Why should I buy an A-Style mandolin?
A-style mandolins feature a tear drop or pear-shaped body with the upper sections of the body curving into the neck.
Although sharing very similar sound and playability characteristics with F-style mandolins, it's worth considering that given their smaller body design, A-style mandolins can feel more compact and therefore easier to handle and get to grips with if you're a beginner who's just setting out on your mandolin playing journey.

Barnes & Mullins Soprano Ukulele - Spalt Maple
Barnes & Mullins BMUK9 ukuleles use all-Spalt Maple tonewoods. A beautiful and distinctive tonewood with a light peach colouring interspersed with dark feathered grain textures, each piece of wood naturally produces its own unique pattern – meaning your BMUK9 will be truly personal to you.
Tonally, these ukuleles deliver a bright, lively sound with a very tight low-end and crystal-clear high frequencies.
Complete with an all-over satin finish and accentuated with a patterned binding and bevelled edge for extra comfort and aesthetic appeal. A corresponding patterned rosette completes these striking ukuleles.
BMUK9 ukuleles feature strap buttons for attaching a ukulele strap.
Who is this ukulele for?
Being the smallest sized model in the common ukulele family, Soprano ukes have a recognisable and charming bright ‘Hawaiian’ vibe.
Many beginners start out playing a soprano uke, and their compact size makes them ideal for younger players and those who prefer a slightly tighter fret spacing than that featured on larger concert and tenor ukes.
Of course, the compact size of soprano ukuleles mean they are easy to transport – making them excellent musical companions on your next holiday or around the beach campfire.

Barnes & Mullins Banjo Ukulele
The Barnes and Mullins UBJ1 Banjo-lele is a charming instrument. Made in the tradition of many banjo-ukes before it, the UBJ1 is scaled and strung as a Ukulele. The result is unmistakably ‘Ukulele Banjo’ in both tone, feel and appearance.
Who is this banjo-ukulele for?
Tuned and strung in the same way a ukulele, this banjo-uke makes for a perfect cross-over instrument for uke players wanting to explore the sound and feel of playing the banjo. The resonator design means this banjo sounds naturally loud and bright and is a great choice for bluegrass styles where the banjo sits at the forefront of the overall sound.
