Barnes & Mullins Wimborne A-Style Mandolin - Electro

Barnes & Mullins Wimborne A-Style Mandolin - Electro

The Barnes & Mullins Wimborne mandolin is an A-Style mandolin named after Wimborne in the English county of Dorset. It was during the late 19th century that Albert Mullins and S Bowley Barnes first met in the town of Wimborne and formed the friendship upon which the next few decades of performance and business would be founded.

The Wimborne features a dark stained solid spruce top paired with a corresponding dark stained solid maple back and sides to deliver a bright and balanced tone with a beautifully characterful chime.

Complete with an ovangkol neck and fingerboard, nickel hardware and adjustable ebony bridge, the Wimborne is the perfect model both for beginners who are discovering the delights of the mandolin for the first time as well as established players wanting to add a great sounding A-style mandolin to their collection.

This electro model features an Artec passive pickup system, making it an ideal choice for performing and recording musicians.

Why should I buy an A-Style mandolin?

A-style mandolins feature a tear drop or pear-shaped body with the upper sections of the body curving into the neck.

Although sharing very similar sound and playability characteristics with F-style mandolins, it's worth considering that given their smaller body design, A-style mandolins can feel more compact and therefore easier to handle and get to grips with if you're a beginner who's just setting out on your mandolin playing journey.

Barnes & Mullins Salvino F-Style Mandolin

Barnes & Mullins Salvino F-Style Mandolin

The Barnes & Mullin Salvino mandolin is a classic, F-style scroll top mandolin named after a recently uncovered 'Salvino' model from the turn of the 20th century.

Featuring a dark stained solid mahogany top and corresponding dark stained solid maple back and sides, the Salvino mandolin delivers a rich and warm tone with focus and clarity.

Complete with an ovangkol neck and fingerboard, nickel hardware and adjustable ebony bridge, the Salvino is the perfect model for beginners looking to discover the delights of the mandolin for the first time as well as established players wanting to add a great sounding F-style mandolin to their collection.

Why should I buy an F-Style mandolin?

Commonly played by professional mandolin players, F-style mandolins feature an upper body scroll and scrolled headstock – making them aesthetically distinctive from A-style mandolins. Their more elaborate body and headstock design naturally uses more tonewood materials and requires a greater level of craftmanship.

There is little discernible difference in the sound produced compared to A-style mandolins. However, F-style mandolins are ever so slightly more resonant due to their larger body chamber and tonewood area are historically favoured for bluegrass music, as they are considered to have more 'cut-through' in a ensemble situation.

Barnes & Mullins Piercy F-Style Mandolin

Barnes & Mullins Piercy F-Style Mandolin

The Barnes & Mullin Salvino mandolin is a classic, F-style scroll top mandolin named after a recently uncovered 'Salvino' model from the turn of the 20th century.

The solid spruce top is paired with solid maple back and sides and finished with a vibrant, antique orange stain. The instrument is coated with a high gloss lacquer which reinforces the well balanced tone with just the right amount of high-end chime.

Featuring a single oval soundhole in place of the F-holes usually found on most other F-style mandolins, the Piercy mandolin offers a slightly broader tonal range to the player, with a more complete sound across the spectrum. It excels across all frequency ranges, occupying the high, mid and low registers admirably, rewarding the enthusiastic player with great projection.

Complete with a maple neck and an ovangkol fingerboard, gold hardware and adjustable ebony bridge, the Piercy is a delightful mandolin, perfect for those looking for a really special instrument.
